AZGOP WELCOMES A NEW AMERICAN AND A NEW REPUBLICAN!

Julie_and_family_2

Julie is a single mother, who was brought to America by her father when she was eight years old. She married young and worked to make her life better. She had two little girls, then found herself a divorced, single mom who wanted a better life for her children. She is their sole support as the lead manicurist for Saigon Nails in Green Valley and is buying her first home. She has not taken aid and proudly is head of her household.

Last year, Julie mentioned to LD 30 Republican Chairman Patti O'Berry that she was longing to be an American citizen. She knew that Patti was a Republican, as they had many political discussions. Julie had been waiting a very long time and was getting anxious and worried about the length of time involved in the citizenship process. Patti offered to call and write Senator Kyl on her behalf. She did so and his staff responded. They did what they could, but as the months continued to go by, it still did not seem like Julie was any closer to fulfilling her dream.

One day, when Julie was doing Patti's nails, they were discussing the Immigration Bill. Julie expressed her fears that "all the citizenships would be given away to illegals", before she could get hers. Patti assured her that would not happen and that she would again contact Senator Kyl on Julie's behalf. Patti made the call to Senator Kyl in early May, with wonderful results in June.

In the middle of June, Julie was notified that she would be taking the oath of citizenship on June 29th at 1p.m. Julie invited Patti to attend. Patti had become, what Julie dubbed, her "American Mom." To make the event even sweeter, Julie's mother Ni arrived in Tucson for a two month visit with her daughter. Ni did not know until she arrived that she would witness her daughter become a United States citizen.

Following her oath of allegiance and the signing of her citizenship papers, Julie's first act as an American, was to register to vote, yes, as a Republican....

Here is my son Sam, painting citrus trees in our neighborhood this summer to earn money. He has quite a business going. And guess what? He is making a lot more money than working at a local fast food restaurant. Once again proving that Americans will do the work if the pay is good.

PULLEN CHALLENGES GOV TO ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAWS

PHOENIX, AZ – Randy Pullen, chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, challenged Governor Napolitano to enforce the new immigration legislation that was signed into law today.

“It’s interesting to me that if Governor Napolitano had enforced propositions 100 and 200 after they had been overwhelmingly approved by Arizona’s voters, there would have been no need for the state legislature to act,” said Pullen. “The Governor is clearly maneuvering to find political relevancy and ensure some form of political longevity for herself.”

HB 2779 requires employers to identify the legal status of their employees, HB 1265 requires the courts to deny bail to illegal aliens, and HB 2467 requires proof of identification for access to state administered services.

“Previously, Governor Napolitano had taken no action on the immigration question other than to blame the federal government and weaken the enforcement of Propositions 100 and 200.

“The real test is to see if Governor Napolitano chooses to actually enforce the new legislation she just signed into to law. To the Governor, all I can say is: do your job,” concluded Pullen.

AZGOP GRASSROOTS ACTION ALERT - JUNE 28, 2007

Dear Friends,

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for standing up for what you believed in. Thank you for proving that our grassroots voices can be heard. Thank you for supporting our party with your emails, letters, calls, and even contributions and support.

Here in Arizona, we are pro-legal immigrant. We very strongly believe in the American dream and the hope and blessings of liberty for all legal immigrants. We are, after all, a nation of immigrants who came to this land in search of a better life, prosperity, freedom, security and peace. But we also believe in the Rule of Law and hope our Congress will begin by securing the borders. Only then can we seek to reform our immigration system by not having made more unfulfilled promises to the American people, but having actually gotten the job done.

Today, because of you, we can begin to talk about real border security and urge Congress to pass legislation that will truly secure our borders and make America safe and free from gangs, drug dealers, human traffickers, and terrorists. Together, we will continue to work to keep America’s families safe, secure, and free.

Friends, while we’ve taken time over the last several weeks to have a healthy discussion and debate over immigration policy, it’s time for our great party to come together and stop Janet Napolitano, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Gabrielle Giffords, and Harry Mitchell from enacting their extreme left wing agenda on the American people. On the horizon we see taxes hikes, uncontrolled pork spending, limits on free speech, and socialized medicine. YOUR Arizona Republican Party stands as the last, best hope to stop the Democrat’s liberal march in its tracks!

Today, I am calling for the party to stand together and fight the Democrats on the local, state, and national level. We have a tremendous amount of work ahead, but with your enthusiasm, support, and most importantly, your voice; our great party will win election after election in every corner of Arizona. Together, we can elect a veto-proof majority in the state legislature. We can win important mayoral, council and county offices around the state. We can play an important part in retaking control of Congress in 2008. And, we can make sure that Arizona votes to send another Republican to the White House next year.

So join me as we prepare to fight in the Democrats in every precinct, in every town, and in every county across Arizona. We have 501 days until Election Day 2008… Let’s make them count!

Sincerely,
RANDY

AZGOP GRASSROOTS ACTION ALERT - JUNE 27, 2007

Dear Friends,

As you are probably already aware, the Senate was able to pass a vote of cloture by a margin of 64-35 yesterday. Like you, I was very disappointed with allowing the “Kennedy Amnesty Bill” to proceed. It is clear that this legislation is weak, unfair, and expensive. I am still very optimistic about the defeat of this bill as it moves through the legislative process.

We still have ample opportunity to stop the “Kennedy Amnesty Bill,” below you will find a list of the 64 U.S. Senators that voted for cloture yesterday. I urge everyone to call, e-mail, and fax these Senators and urge them to reconsider their vote.

Beyond that, if this bill makes it through the Senate, we still have an opportunity to defeat this bill when it moves to the House. Already a coalition of Republicans, led by Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) and supported by several key Republicans including Arizona’s own John Shadegg and Trent Franks, as well as House Republican Leader John Boehner are working to derail and defeat this bad piece of legislation once and for all. Yesterday, the House Republican Conference voted on a resolution simply stating “Resolved the House Republican Conference disapproves of the Senate immigration bill.” The resolution passed by an overwhelming margin, 114-28. This vote is the first step in having a unified Republican front in the House to stop the Kennedy Amnesty Bill.”

The fight continues and the Arizona Republican Party will remain on the front lines of the immigration debate. Remember, your voice is our voice. It was your voices that rose up and stalled this legislation and now I truly believe it will be your voices heard from coast to coast that will ultimately send the “Kennedy Amnesty Bill” to the ash heap of history.

As always, it is honor to serve as your state chairman.

Sincerely,

RANDY

URGENT ACTION NOTICE!
Posted by AZGOPInsider under Illegal Immigration , Border , Government

Word from Capital Hill is that the House Republicans are holding a special Conference meeting at 5:30 p.m. today (2:30 AZ time) to vote on the following resolution: “Resolved the House Republican Conference disapproves of the Senate immigration bill.”

In a Conference meeting this morning, a quorum was not present, so when Intelliegence Committee Ranking Member Peter Hoekstra (MI) introduced the resolution, they debated it, but no action was taken. Insiders say that the Hoekstra, Arizona’s own John Shadegg and Indiana’s Mark Souder spoke in favor of the resolution. You can reach any member of Congress by dialing (202) 225-3121 and asking for their office.

Following the conference meeting this morning, Hoekstra, Shadegg, Souder and some other House Republicans held a press conference and were joined by Senators Tom Coburn (OK) and Jim DeMint (SC), both of whom have been leading the fight in the Senate against the bill.

Politico.com covers the story here.

U.S. SENATE VOTES FOR CLOTURE ON COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM LEGISLATION

Will of the American people ignored

PHOENIX, AZ – The U.S. Senate today voted 64-35 to invoke cloture on the comprehensive immigration reform legislation.

Randy Pullen, chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, was disappointed by the Senate’s move. “Anyone who voted yes on cloture on this legislation is essentially voting its final passage,” said Pullen. “It has been shown time and again that this bill is fatally flawed. The latest Rasmussen polling data suggests that only twenty-two percent of the American people support passage of this legislation.

“This is certainly not representative of the will of the people of Arizona, and I don’t believe it is in the best interests of our nation,” concluded Pullen.

The bill is now headed for debate and final vote in the United States Senate.

GRASSROOTS ACTION ALERT

Dear Friends,

In 96 hours, the Senate is due to take up the comprehensive immigration reform bill again. Two weeks ago, because of your calls, emails, faxes and letters, two things happened:

First, our collective voices were heard and we won the first round by stopping passage of this bill in the Democrat-controlled US Senate. Second, we demonstrated to ourselves, to other state Republican parties, to our national party and to the rest of the nation that we are strongest when we unite behind the will of the American people, behind the rule of law, behind the promises we have already made and must now keep. Today, we are a stronger party than before because our voice has grown with new Arizona Republican voters, new donors and new activists within our ranks!

Please, call (202) 224-3121 and tell Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, Trent Lott, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the US Senate that we need real border security and real immigration reform… but this bill just isn’t it.

Then, please CLICK HERE and send a make a secure online donation today to YOUR ARIZONA REPUBLICAN PARTY. To keep our voices heard loud and clear, YOUR party needs YOUR support today. Your contribution of $25, $50, $75, $100 or even $150 today will go a long way in helping us win this fight.. This is our party, our state and our nation – and all three are worth fighting for.

Thank you in advance for your generous support!

AZGOP ACTION ALERT: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

When Republicans retake control of the US Senate in 2008 we can pass an effective Border Security bill to protect our communities and a common-sense Guest Worker bill to protect our economy.

The legislation being considered in the U.S. Senate today is so bad that Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid, who is leading the charge for its passage in the full Senate claims it is President Bush’s, not theirs.

In the grand scheme, the two votes today have been a victory for all Americans who believe in the Rule of Law – who believe immigration reform begins with securing our borders. This neither secures the borders nor deals with illegal immigration fairly. But these votes today have also been a tremendous victory for the majority of Arizona voters and the vast majority of Arizona Republicans who oppose this legislation and who stood up and asked to be counted.

Don’t stop now, my friends. Our complacency is all that stands in between our opponents on this Amnesty bill and their ultimate victory over common sense and the Rule of Law. Call your senators and tell them to hold firm against this legislation.

Today’s early victories belong to you! Harry Reid has already stated that this issue is not dead and we must always be vigilant and watchful when this issue may rise again. Whether or not we win tomorrow is also in our hands!

As always, it is an honor to serve you as chairman.

Shadegg: Defeat of Cornyn Amendment Is “Stunning”

Charges “Closed Process Is Indefensible”

Washington, DC- Today, Congressman John Shadegg (R-AZ) released the following statement regarding the defeat of Senator John Cornyn’s amendment that would have barred felons, members of terrorist organizations, known gang members, sex predators, alien smugglers and felony drunk drivers from obtaining legal immigrant status:

“Immigration policy defines a nation. It is impossible to overstate the importance of getting that policy right. As we in Arizona have witnessed, failing to secure our borders can have dramatic effects. The defeat of the amendment offered by Senator John Cornyn to the Senate immigration bill is stunning. This amendment would have barred felons, members of terrorist organizations, known gang members, sex predators, alien smugglers and felony drunk drivers from obtaining a probationary Z-visa.

“The people of Arizona need to know the Senate is in the process of passing sweeping changes to our law that hold the potential of changing America forever. This legislation is being rushed through in a matter of days, without public hearings or markups. This closed process is indefensible, as the defeat of the Cornyn and other amendments this week illustrates. This is no way to set critical national immigration policy.”
