PHOENIX, AZ – “While the Democrats continue to stump around the nation on the campaign trail talking about bigger government, higher taxes and their old, tired Democrat issues, Republicans have been continuing their debate that promoting investment and growth will save everything the liberal Welfare state kills: hope, opportunity and a chance at the American dream, just to name a few,” said Sean McCaffrey, executive director of the Arizona Republican Party. “But Republicans campaigning for office here in Arizona are quite literally saving lives too.”
“When he’s not talking about ways to breathe new life into Phoenix’s economy, council candidate Jon Altmann was breathing life into a fellow citizen,” McCaffrey said.
On Friday, September 7, 2007, Altmann was out campaigning door-to-door, when he saw a person lying on the ground, turning purple. Altmann assisted in administering basic cardiac life support and was able to get the person breathing again. Emergency fire rescue arrived a short time later.
Altmann, who has a background and experience in CPR, said just 17-percent of people survive that need CPR, and that timing and training are both important.
“It’s all about protecting neighborhoods and our neighbors,” said Altmann. “This is just another day of service for me. After having 20 years in the emergency medical business and 22 years in the Navy, you are always just happy to have helped save a life.”
Altmann is running for Phoenix City Council District 3. The election will be held tomorrow, September 11, 2007.
