PHOENIX, AZ - Arizona Teenage Republicans (TARS) brought home five top awards from the TAR Leadership Conference held recently in Washington D.C. The five top awards include “Outstanding State Federation” which went to the state of Arizona that includes twelve well-organized TAR clubs. Both Saguaro High School’s TAR Club and the East Valley TAR Club shared the honor of being named “Outstanding TAR Club” in the United States. Andrew Flavin won the individual award for “Outstanding TAR” in the nation and Marianne McKay-Cox, advisor to the Saguaro High School TARS, won the award for “Outstanding TAR Advisor” in the nation. Cyndi Collins, advisor to Sahuaro TAR Club in Tucson, received the award given each year by the National TAR Director to an adult supporter of TARS.
Fifteen Arizona TARS and seven advisors attended the conference from July 14-21 where they were joined by teenagers from across the country to hear prominent political leaders and participate in leadership workshops. The week-long trip included a VIP tour of the White House and two days on Capitol Hill where they met with congressmen and senators from around the country as well as with members of the Arizona Congressional Delegation.
